The HAAKE PCR 630 is the latest generation of innovative process control technology!

What is the Thermo Scientific HAAKE PCR 630?

The Thermo Scientific HAAKE PCR 630, a Process Control Rheometer, is the latest generation of innovative process control technology for online rheological measurements. This process control rheometer measures the melt index at standard ASTM loads and maintains a minimal lag time which remains constant over the melt index measurement range.

What is the Thermo Scientific HAAKE PCR 630

The slit die pressure control feature allows for operations above the process pressure. This ensures operation in the linear region of the transducers and preventing out-gassing. This allows the Hakke PCR 630 to cover a wide melt index range and follow transitions within a single die, eliminating costly and troublesome die changes frequent with other systems.

What sets this process control rheometer apart from others?

The patented 3-pump design allows low shear rates to have its viscosity measured without compromising residence time. It is resulting in higher sensitivity while comparing different molecular weight materials. The modes that the HAAKE PCR 630 can operate at are melt index mode, transition melt index mode, purge mode, or viscosity mode. They can also operate in different combinations of those modes. The process control rheometer can report a synthesized Mooney or Intrinsic Viscosity (IV) value. This value is a mathematical calculation from measured shear viscosity data to the mass concentration of the polymer. Conveniently, recipes consisting of operating parameters and control values can be stored for various product grades. To maintain the ability for trend analysis, SPC reporting, and data storage, this rheometer logs all data and events in a database.

The return to stream design that the HAAKE PCR 630 has is because after testing the material it is returned to the stream, minimizing waste. It is available with a valve block for process isolation and an optical block to allow online spectroscopic analysis. While this functionality is offered as an option, it would require additional equipment. All melt pumps and slit dies are exchangeable to adapt the rheometer to specific processes.

The NEW Process Supervisor for Windows, available for the HAAKE PCR 630, offers unmatched ease of- use and operator-friendly design. The software, based on RSView® 32™, is designed for integration into plant DCS systems. This new software offers data communication with a variety of protocols like Data Highway plus®, ModBus®. This Windows software also offers the latest innovation in process control. We also offer standard analog signals of 4-20 mA or 24 VDC.

What do you need to do for installation and maintenance?

The HAAKE PCR 630 is most commonly installed on most any manufactures finishing and compounding extruders upstream to a pelletizer or mounted as a side stream. However, this can be retrofitted to many existing process systems and is interchangeable with existing PCR and MFM installations as an upgrade option. The rheometer is backed by direct support for the service and training of plant personnel and integration assistance into existing plant DCS systems. The HAAKE PCR 630 design concept provides many convenient maintenance features by being designed to have available access to all crucial components allowing removal from the process by closing its isolation valves and removing two bolts. The majority of the components are standard stock items from significant vendors of polymer processing hardware.
